SAN JUAN, PUERTO RICO — With mentor Felix Trinidad beaming in the audience, Felix Verdejo made a triumphant return from left hand surgery with a second technical knockout of Josenilson Dos Santos.
After a quiet, feel-out first round, the taller Dos Santos began coming forward and increasing pressure. Dos Santos tried to counter a left jab with his right, but Verdejo own right hand was much quicker. The clean shot brought Dos Santos to his knees.
Dos Santos got back to his feet but could not remain steady, forcing referee Roberto Ramirez Jr. to stop the contest.
The victory was Verdejo’s third of 2015 and his first since undergoing minor left hand surgery in June.
