Masego brought the Fix Your Face Tour to Nashville’s historic Ryman Auditorium on Sept. 2nd. Lekan opened and set the tone with a performance that made it clear he’s a name to watch. He did a great job warming up the Ryman before Masego took the stage.
Once Masego took the stage, his musicianship was on full display. Backed by a live band, he moved seamlessly between saxophone, piano, vocals, and his production setup. At one point, he created a beat live onstage, giving us a glimpse into the process before building the performance around it. The R&B junkie in me lived for his cover of “4Ever” by Lil Mo. Small things like that show he is a student of the game.
I’ve seen Masego live three times, and I’ve always told people his live versions of his songs are just different. Tonight was no different. What continues to impress me is how much he has grown as an artist and performer. There is a clear passion behind everything he does, whether he’s behind an instrument, singing, creating a beat, or moving across the stage.
The performance never felt like he was simply checking off songs from a setlist; he was actively creating an experience with the audience and his band. By the end of the show, it was clear why Masego continues to stand apart: his artistry is at its peak. Virginia produces great things, and Masego is one of those things.
