ANAHEIM — Ryan Garcia needed just one minute and 20 seconds to deliver a one-punch knockout of two-time title challenger Francisco Fonseca at the Honda Center.
Garcia’s controlled the action from ring-center, using his length to force Fonseca into lunging punches. From there, Garcia repeatedly tagged him with check left hooks.
Fonseca’s left jab-straight was perfectly split in half by Garcia’s final counter left hook, leaving Fonseca flat on his back with vacant eyes.
In his post-fight interview, Garcia engaged in friendly banter with WBC lightweight titlist Devin Haney about a future showdown. Garcia is expected to next compete against three-division world champion Jorge Linares, who scored a fourth-round stoppage over Carlos Morales on the undercard.
