Boxing with an international flair returns to Atlanta this Friday (May 10) as undefeated prospect Carlos “Kitten” Monroe Jr. takes on former WBC Latino title-holder Juan Carlos Monterrosa.
Monroe has racked up 14 wins over the last 18 months under the tutelage of former Mike Tyson trainer Stacey McKinley, strength and conditioning coach Ramone Hayes and coach Xavier Briggs. Monterrosa, who sports a 21-10-1 record, has previously shared the ring with the likes of Caleb Plant, Austin Trout and Antoine Douglas.
The undercard features several international boxers like Honduras native Sixto Sauza, the Dominican Republic’s Jesus Almonte, and Azerbaijan’s Elvin Gambarov. Deonte Brown, who headlined the last Club Revel card, returns along with Antonio Todd, Demitri Bentley, Octavius Bowman and Hakim Lopez.
Jamaican amateur champion Ian Darby will compete at middleweight and make his pro debut against Jayln Anthony. Darby is under the wing of manager Caren Halliwell and trainer Willie Yap, who guided Hall of Famer Mike McCallum to three world titles.
“This is our second event at Revel,” explained Terri “The Boss” Moss, who’s co-promoting the card with Tory Thomas. “We’re definitely bringing the fights back to Atlanta, putting boxing back on the map here. And with these shows at Revel, combining the best of both worlds, [we’re] putting entertainment and world class boxing together for another amazing evening.
