LOS ANGELES — Super-welterweight prospect Ferdinand Kerobyan improved to 11-0 (6 KOs) last Friday with a quick first-round knockout of Rolando Mendivil at the Belasco Theater.
Mendivil never had a chance. From the opening bell, Kerobyan was stalking and within seconds clipped Mendivil with a straight right followed by a booming left hook. Mendivil staggered backward and hit the canvas after taking a left hook-right cross combination.
Mendivil beat the count but tasted the canvas again from another flush right. The referee mercifully called it with 49 seconds remaining.
In only his second year, the 20-year-old Kerobyan is still feasting on subpar competition. But his aggressive style makes him one to keep an eye on as a potential future player and an entertaining slugger at junior middleweight.
