Sunday’s welterweight fight between Victor Ortiz and John Molina is officially canceled, Premier Boxing Champions announced yesterday.
The decision came just one day after Ortiz was arrested on three charges of forcible rape. The former title-holder has since posted bail. John Molina, who hasn’t fought since December 2017, will be rescheduled for a fight later this year.
The rest of the card will go on as scheduled with Brandon Figueroa vs. Oscar Escandon moving to the main event. The 21-year old Figueroa is seeking his fourth consecutive knockout. Escandon, an 11-year veteran, is trying to rebound from consecutive knockout defeats to Gary Russell Jr. and Tugstsogt Nyambayar.
The card is rounded out by the U.S. debut of 2016 Olympic silver medalist Joe Joyce taking on Iago Kiladze. Prospects Joey Spencer (4-0, 4 KOs) and Stephen Fulton (13-0, 6 KOs) will compete in four and eight round bouts, respectively.
The card airs on Fox Sports 1 at 9 pm ET.
