MOSCOW, Russia — 91 seconds is all Alexander Povetkin needed to drop Mike Perez twice for a crushing first round KO.
Povetkin wobbled Perez with the first clean right cross he landed. Perez was able to clinch after missing a lead right, but had a lapse in concentration and kept his hands low. When the two untangled, Povetkin quickly turned his full weight into a short right hand that stiffened Perez’s legs and floored him.
Perez beat the count in a dazed manner, allowing Povetkin to put him down permanently with a few grazing shots.
The win makes Povetkin the mandatory challenger for Deontay Wilder’s WBC title.[youtube https://youtu.be/jhJIYe7WDMU]
