NEWCASTLE, Tyne and Wear — Undefeated heavyweight prospect Anthony Joshua (11-0, 11 KOs) had no issues yesterday in destroying another overmatched foe Jason Gavern (26-20-4, 11 KOs), who was knocked out in round three at the Metro Radio Arena.

The 6’2 Gavern spent most of the fight on the outside, leaving himself to be target practice for the 6’6 Joshua’s superior reach and power. The few times Gavern did try to get inside, Joshua either stepped back and drilled him with counter hooks, or used his strength to muscle Gavern backwards.

Gavern was dropped twice in the second off a straight right and left hook. Those punches would produce two more knockdowns along with the stoppage in round three.

This was a solid outing for a stay busy fight. Now in his third year as a pro without seeing the fourth round, it’s now time for Joshua to get the experience of distance fights. That’s why the scheduled bout on May 30 against Kevin Johnson is so important to his development. Johnson has the crafty defense and counter-punching (sans power) to make Joshua have to think about his work.

  1. It was absolute joke of a fight, in fact it should of been made on April fools… Joshua had already knocked him about in sparring with ease not so long ago, its embarrassing… He needs to fight someone his own size…

Also I hate the the fact Eddie Hearn/Matchroom are making him a boring ‘media darling’ having him say the right thing all the time with no personalty… Its all bollocks, you see him hit Gavern on the floor aswell, If it was a competitive fight and fare match up I wouldnt mind, but the he is LEVELS above Gavern… Then he tried to justify it after the fight…

I would love to see Dillion Whyte, Fury or Wilder knock him out…
