Lloyd, Andre 3000 and Lil Wayne Bemoan Lost P*ssy on “Dedication to My Ex”

The arrangements are styled after those carefree, Frankie Lymon type 50's swing/R&B songs. Combining that with the raunchiness of the lyrics, especially the repeated wailing about lost pussy, is just so over the top that you can't help but incredulously smile and laugh no matter how conservative your tastes

“I know another bee has been in that honey…”

Went I talked to Lloyd at last year’s BET Hip Hop Awards, he was adamant in boasting his new album would have music I’d never heard before. He saw the skeptical look on my face and reiterated his content on love, the production and presentation would shock me. I won’t lie, by the end of our roughly five-minute convo he had sold me. And after listening to this ode to lost pussy, “Dedication to My Ex (Miss That),” Lloyd’s proclamations were valid.

What makes this song such an enjoyable listen is how it plays with your expectations. The arrangements are styled after those carefree, Frankie Lymon type 50’s swing/R&B songs. Combining that with the raunchiness of the lyrics, especially the repeated wailing about lost pussy, is just so over the top that you can’t help but incredulously smile and laugh no matter how conservative your tastes (“Where did my pussy go…I’m about to kill this bitch!”). Andre 3000 seems to find his way on every R&B song these days, and his verse supplies sophistication to the proceedings without killing the track’s surreal nature. Oddly, Wayne is only talks a few lines on here instead of dropping a verse.

We’d be remiss without offering some applause to Ceelo. Without question, the success of “Fuck You” is the main reason Lloyd and his label are willing to gamble on this being a single. You can bet “pussy” will be replaced for the radio edit. My apologies for doubting you, Lloyd.
