LAS VEGAS, NV — A packed house was on hand at the MGM Grand for the weigh-in and final appearance together of Manny Pacquiao and Shane Mosley before tomorrow night’s (May 7) WBO welterweight title match. Commentator James Brown hosted the proceedings and emphasized the lack of trash talk between both combatants, and Pacquiao’s political work in the Philippines. Before the fighters took the stage, Arum did his last promotional push on the mic.
“Pacquiao’s fast, both with his feet and hands, he has great ring intelligence, and he can punch equally well with both hands,” Arum beamed. “Let’s give credit where it’s due. In this era one of the great, great fighters is Sugar Shane Mosley.”
Shane Mosley weighed in first right at the welterweight limit of 147 pounds. The former welterweight champion was very defined and showed no visible effects of coming down from junior middleweight.
“None of this is getting under my skin. It’s going to be an exciting fight, the whole world needs to watch this,” Mosley stated.
Pacquiao tipped the scales at 145 pounds, just a half-pound more than his weight when he faced Antonio Margarito last November. The Filipino superstar affirmed that he did not slack off in training despite being an overwhelming favorite with most observers.
“I believe that Shane Mosley is a strong and good fighter,” Pacquiao said. “I had to train hard and focus on the fight.”
Below are the undercard weigh-in results. Pacquiao-Mosley airs live tomorrow on pay-per-view at 9 p.m. ET.
