“My momma need me/Who’s gonna save her now?”
J Cole’s debut album may be nowhere in sight, but that hasn’t stopped the North Carolina emcee from keeping his fans blessed with new music. We got the Friday Night Lights mixtape a few months ago, and he’s been consistently dropping new tracks ever since. This latest, “The Good Son,” is a track that was reportedly supposed to be on The Warm Up as a multi-part series. This first part tells the story of a seemingly good kid who gets his life taken for being in the wrong place at the wrong time (drive-by shooting). It’ll be interesting to see if Cole’s other parts continue this narrative into the afterlife, focuses on the grief of the mother, or moves on to another story.
