Fat Joe on Hosting BET Hip Hop Awards ’22: “Always remember that yesterday’s host is not today’s host.”

Fat Joe makes his hosting debut for the BET Hip Hop Awards.

Hip-Hop legend and media maven Fat Joe has added a new distinction to his 30-year industry pedigree with the announcement of hosting duties for the 2022 BET Hip Hop Awards.

The long-running award show will be taped September 30 from Atlanta’s Cobb Energy Center and make its broadcast premier on October 4 at 9 p.m. ET.

The show prides itself on bringing together the hip-hop’s hottest stars while also paying homage to important figures in the genre’s storied 50-year history. When deciding on the host for this year’s event, BET executives tapped Joe as someone with strong ties to the network and the stomping grounds of Hip-Hop origins — the Bronx.

“Fat Joe is hip hop royalty. He has represented the artform and the Bronx, the birthplace of hip-hop, throughout his outstanding musical career. He is a treasured friend of the network and we’ve loved seeing and supporting his evolution to becoming the superstar he is today,” said Connie Orlando, EVP, Specials, Music Programming & Music Strategy at BET. “We can’t wait to watch him take the stage with his vivacious energy, standing together with today’s hottest and beloved hip-hop stars.”

Playing on his quote that’s become the slang catchphrase of 2022, Fat Joe is promising his hosting duties will be remembered as being a part of historical night.

This will be the BIGGEST award show in history,” said Joe. “It’s truly an honor to host and produce the BET Hip Hop Awards and I can’t thank Connie and the entire BET family enough for this opportunity. We’re going to celebrate music, culture and entertainment, honor the biggest and brightest stars in the world and make this an unforgettable night full of laughs and surprises. Always remember that yesterday’s host is not today’s host.”

The BET Hip Hop Awards ’22 list of nominees, performers and presenters will be announced soon.
