The buildup for Adrien Broner’s in-ring return is off to a rocky start. The former multi-division world champion was irate from the beginning of yesterday’s virtual press conference, taking aim at Premier Boxing Champions founder Al Haymon and Showtime Sports president Stephen Espinoza for a perceived lack of respect for his stature.
Broner then abruptly left, leaving trainer Mike Stafford and opponent Omar Figueroa Jr. to handle the rest of the presser. Later, Broner took to his Instagram account to proclaim while meaning everything previously said, there’s no lingering issues with Haymon and Espinoza.
Broner vs. Figueroa will air August 20 as the main event of a Showtime Championship Boxing triple-header also featuring Alberto Puello vs. Batyr Akhmedov and Roger Gutierrez against Hector Garcia.
