When Hip Hop is done for the love and not out of obligation, great music happens. Method Man may have entered that rarified air if “Butterfly Effect” serves as what to expect on Meth Lab 3.
With a prominent role in the popular Power series, an executive producer credit on the Wu Tang TV series and other film ventures, Method Man doesn’t have to depend on rapping for his livelihood. And like Nas’s recent run with Hit Boy, it sounds like Meth has a renewed hunger for the game and seeking out new collaborations with talents like RJ Payne. Meth makes it clear that he’s not interested in adapting to mainstream soundscapes. What he aims to provide is what those templates grossly lack — soul (I’m what the game’s been missing/ That boom bap, that true ‘dat…).
The video is directed by The Last American B-boy. No word yet on a release date for Meth Lab 3.
