Professional boxing returns to Atlanta this weekend at Buckhead Fight Club, headlined by former WBA super welterweight titleholder Yuri Foreman (35-3- 10 KOs) taking on Jimmy Williams (17-5-2, 6 KOs) , and Buckhead Fight Club’s own Abel Aparicio (8-0, 3 KOs) making his first hometown fight against Juan Centeno (5-5-2, 1 KO).
Fight fans remember Foreman most for his dramatic 2010 battle against Miguel Cotto, where Foreman fought the future Hall of Famer into the late rounds despite battling on a torn ACL. The 40-year-old Foreman is having just his second fight since launching a comeback in December after a three-year layoff.
Rounding out the card is Eric Moon, super middleweight; Floyd Schofield Jr. super featherweight; Nafear Charles, lightweight; Mikhail Montgomery, feather weight; Christian Steele, super lightweight; Brandon Quarles, middleweight; Keedric White vs. Jalen Woodmore; Hendri Cedeno Martinez, super lightweight; Tahmir Smalls, welterweight; Morgan Griggle, and the pro debut of female fighter Melody Popravak vs. Nina Gallegos at 165 pounds. Also featured will be music performances and a special appearance from Freeway Rick Ross.
“We’re really bringing the action with these fights,” promoter Terri Moss said. “Yuri Foreman is a great champion and a real fan favorite. It’s also exciting to have Abel Aparicio in a fight here in Atlanta for the first time, and as a former female champion, I’m always eager to have a female on a card, and Melody Popravak is ranked #6 in the world, so she’s coming to make a statement in her first pro bout.”
Although the card is sold out, fans can stream the entire card live through Eventbrite, which includes the Friday June 18 weigh-in at 1 p.m. ET. The card begins with a first bell of 5 p.m. ET on June 19.
