Although Gervonta “Tank” Davis is focused on his Atlanta debut against Yuriorkis Gamboa next month, the former super featherweight title-holder is intrigued by a potential showdown with Leo Santa Cruz.
Santa Cruz, who is coming off a decision win over Mosies Flores on November 23, recently named Davis as one of his top targets for 2020.
“We want the big fights in 2020,” said Santa Cruz. “I want Gervonta Davis or Gary Russell Jr. I want to show the world I’m not scared of anybody.”
Davis will make his lightweight (135) debut against Gamboa. Despite Santa Cruz stating he would like to remain at 130 pounds, Davis is confident the fight will be easy to make. However, the undefeated Baltimore native also appeared bemused that Santa Cruz would publicly challenge him.
“We’re definitely not looking past Gamboa,” Davis said at his Atlanta press conference earlier this week. “But if he (Santa Cruz) wants to bite off more than he can chew, then let’s do it. We’re under the same umbrella (Premier Boxing Champions) so it’ll be easy to make.”
Davis vs. Gamboa takes place on December 28 at State Farm Arena.
