Canelo Alvarez was officially presented with his newly-won WBC middleweight title yesterday at a ceremony in Mexico City.
Surrounded by his trainers, Eddy and Jose “Chepo” Reynoso, Golden Boy CEO Oscar De La Hoya, and WBC president Mauricio Sulaiman, Canelo revealed his thoughts on the winning the lineal title.
“I feel very honored to be here today to receive the WBC middleweight world championship belt,” said Canelo. “I am very grateful to the WBC for granting me my second division world title. This is a very big step in my career and I am looking forward to my upcoming fight in May.”
Canelo won the title on November 21, beating Miguel Cotto by unanimous decision. Alvarez’s rumored opponent list for May includes Willie Monroe, Gabe Rosado and Billy Joe Saunders.
