NEW YORK CITY, NY — IBF middleweight titlist Daniel Geale touched down in Manhattan yesterday afternoon for his August 17 American debut and title defense against Darren Barker. It’s always interesting to note how quickly celebrity changes based on location. In his native Australia, Geale would have a nice crowd around him while out and about in most cities. But in the States? He’s just another tourist. He’ll have a chance to reverse that anonymity come next Saturday against Barker and potentially put his name in the 2014 Golovkin and Martinez sweepstakes.
Geale vs. Barker airs on HBO “Boxing After Dark” at 9:45 p.m. ET.
