Sugar Ray Leonard is rightly considered one of the premier fighters of the 80s. But before he entered that decade of decadence, Leonard had an amazing 1979, where he scored nine wins (seven by stoppage), including a signature TKO over Wilfred Benitez. Fighting nearly every month, two of Ray’s more devastating knockouts were first round blitzes of Daniel Aldo Gonzalez and Andy Price. The speed and power obviously stand out as does Leonard’s killer instinct. Once hurt, each man was quickly dispatched. Just imagine if this 23-year-old version of Leonard was coming up today at welterweight.
