Last night’s ShoBox main event treated fans to an entertaining 10 round welterweight battle between prospects Vincent Arroyo (12-1, 6 KOs) and Hector Sanchez (19-2, 9 KOs).
Arroyo was bothered early from a cut over his left eye after an accidental clash of heads in round one. Sanchez was able to get out of the blocks early with his size advantage by landing several left hooks on the notably smaller Arroyo.
As the bout progressed, Arroyo was able to take the fight inside to great success. Slipping Sanchez’s long jab, Arroyo forced big exchanges in rounds five and sixth. While both men stood their ground, the pace and growing slugging nature of the fight favored Arroyo.
Sanchez found himself badly stunned and stumbling in the eighth via a jarring left hook. He survived the round, but could not completely turn the tide of Arroyo’s aggression in the ninth and final 10th round.
Vincent Arroyo’s consistent aggression and inside fighting was rewarded by the judges with a unanimous decision victory with scores of 98-92 twice and 96-94.
Lateef Kayode improved his record to 18-0 (14 KOs) on the undercard with a lopsided but occasionally sloppy performance over Felix Cora Jr (22-6-2, 12 KOs). Kayode dominated the gun-shy Cora Jr. with power shots but lost a point in the 10th for a low blow. Scorecards read 97-92, 96-93 and 98-92.
