“I eat bars/ Eat beats for my appetite/ You wouldn’t know about that/ You never had a bite.”
One of the game’s most successful pop rappers is beefing with a buzzing crew of outspoken teens? It sure appears that way. After taking a swipe on Tyler the Creator’s “Yonkers,” B.o.B. is firing back on “No Future.” Having lived in Atlanta for well over a decade, I’ve seen B.o.B. live several times, and well before his current fame hit. He can definitely spit. That wasn’t getting him anywhere, so once the pop tunes starting hitting, he stuck with that lane. But the emcee in him isn’t dead, and he took immense exception with an upstart like Tyler putting his name in his music (“I’ll crash the airplane that that faggot B.o.B. is in.”).
B.o.B. always had a good flow, and he uses it well here. The beat is very simplistic and unremarkable, so his words are what has to carry the proceedings. As expected, he portrays Odd Future as a bunch of rookies who haven’t done anything in the game to be disrespecting him. There’s definitely a handful fo throwaway lines (“Put it in the oven/ Get baked like muffins.”), but the track serves its purpose, which is a warning shot for those who think they can use him as a punchline. For all of their boastfulness, Tyler appears to be taking a diplomatic approach to this potential battle.
“Whoa. I don’t think the ‘No Future’ song is even a diss. But I’ve never heard him spit like that,” Tyler tweeted. “Took me by surprise cus [sic] it’s tight. Still hate that ‘Airplanes’ song tho. It has the same chord progression as fucking ‘Love the Way You Lie’ and that one song by Katy Perry.”
Round one goes to B.o.B.
