Rihanna Signs Management Deal with Roc Nation, Creates ‘Rihanna Entertainment’

Wale made some headlines last year when he signed a management deal with Roc Nation. Obviously, Rihanna coming abroad is their biggest coup yet, and could be a great advertising tool to recruit potential signees.

Add Rihanna to the growing list of artists affiliated with Jay-Z’s Roc Nation.

Rihanna announced today that she is severing ties with long-time manager Marc Jordan to enlist the services of Roc Nation management. The change precedes the singer’s plan to launch Rihanna Entertainment, a multi-media entertainment company that will house all her ventures from music and films, to books and fashion.

Rihanna states these moves were made with the sole purpose of taking her brand to a higher level through cross-marketing.

“[I’m] so excited to take this next step in my career,” she told the Associated Press.

Jay-Z has been a mentor to Rihanna since 2005, when he signed the then 17-year-old singer to Def Jam. While president at the label, Jay-Z appeared on her Grammy-winning single “Umbrella,” off 2007’s double platinum LP Good Girl Gone Bad. To date, Rihanna has released four albums on Def Jam, the latest being 2009’s Rated R. Every album during her tenure has achieved either gold or platinum certification.

Jay-Z last collaborated musically with Rihanna on his Blueprint 3 single “Run This Town,” which also featured Kanye West.

Rihanna’s latest album, Loud, is set to be released on November 16.

I think that many are going to look closely at how Rihanna’s brand develops and hopefully grows under Jay-Z. If she does exceptionally well, I see a lot more artists coming over.

Even though we’re just hearing about it now, this must have been in the works for a minute. I’m interested to see what they do to assist in cross-promoting her new album.

For now, things are looking very bright over at Roc Nation.
