HBO Horror Series ’30 Coins’ Renewed for Second Season

Death would have been too easy for Padre Vergara. The Spanish horror drama series 30 Coins will return for a second season, HBO has confirmed.

The eight-episode season will begin principal photography this month. Shooting locations are set for Spain, Italy, France and the UK.

The first season ends with the the city of Pedraza in ruins and the people driven mad. Elena (Megan Montaner) is comatose in a Madrid hospital with a grief-stricken Paco (Miguel Angel Silvestre) by her side. With chaotic season one finale, including the undetermined fate of protagonist Fernandez and rising power of his nemesis Cardinal Santoro, you can expect an even more nightmarish reality in a season two where the lines between the natural and spiritual are forever blurred.

“If the first season was the gathering of the storm clouds, the second will be the maelstrom preceding an epic storm,” said director Alex de la Iglesia. “The characters are involved in a hellish plot, where death and resurrection are two sides of the same coin.”

30 Coins is co-written by de la Iglesia and Jorge Guerrichaechevarria.

The second season will debut on HBO in the US and stream internationally on HBO Max in 2023.
