Today, on what would have been the Chicago rapper’s 27th birthday, King Von’s family and team have released his vision for “Demon,” off his debut Welcome to O-Block.
Showcasing his signature storytelling skills, the opening chorus relives the 2012 death of his close friend “Whitey/ White White,” who was killed outside a corner store while Von was inside making a purchase. That moment signaled Von’s further descent into the streets with his best friend TRoy, who was also tragically murdered in 2017 (“Me at TRoy was schemin’ (uh-huh)/ I’m tryna put my whole team on (On gang)”).
As his final video, “Demon” is unique in documenting the rapper’s creative process via a voiceover detailing his full video treatment ideas. From the “you can’t walk a mile in my shoes” imagery to the shooting of his close friend Whitey, Von was an artist with complete confidence in his vision and remains one of Hip Hop’s biggest tragedies of 2020.
