Craig Mack, known for the classic 1994 single “Flava in Ya Ear,” has succumbed to heart failure on Monday in Walterboro, South Carolina. He was 46 years old.
Beginning his career in 1988 under the name MC EZ, Mack would find his biggest success under Diddy’s Bad Boy Records. His platinum “Flava In Ya Ear” singlr was the label’s first crossover hit, and the remix provided prominent exposure for the Notorious B.I.G. and the newly solo Busta Rhymes. Mack’s debut, Project: Funk Da World, would be certified gold and spawn another single, “Get Down,” was which also certified gold. Mack would leave the label and release one more album, Operation: Get Down, in 1997.
In a Twitter post, Erick Sermon confirmed that he provided production for Craig Mack’s new album, adding that the unnamed project was complete. DJ Scratch tweeted that Mack had been ill for an extended period and was not surprised by the news.
Craig Mack is survived by a wife and two adult children.
