Atlanta rapper Carlos “Shawty Lo” Walker has been confirmed dead after a fatal single vehicle accident Wednesday morning.
The incident took place in Atlanta on I-285 southbound at Cascade Road.
Walker’s vehicle, a 2016 Audi, crashed through the highway guardrail and hit two trees before catching fire. Walker was ejected from the vehicle while two other passengers were transported to a hospital with undisclosed injuries.
At press time, authorities have not determined the reason for the crash.
As Shawty Lo, Walker first reached national prominence as the lead member of the group D4L with members Fabo, Mook-b and Stoney. Their debut album, Down 4 Life, went gold via the hit singles “Betcha Can’t Do It Like” and “Laffy Taffy,” the latter being recognized as the most downloaded song in history by the 2007 Guinness Book of World Records.
His biggest solo record would be 2007’s “Dey Know,” which charted Top 40 on Billboard’s Top 100.
Walker was 40 years old and is survived by 11 children.
