Main Events will return to NBC Sports November 2 with a high-level heavyweight contest featuring Tomasz Adamek (49-2, 29 KOs) against undefeated Vyacheslav Glazkov (15-0-1, 11KOs).
Both fighters last appeared on the network on August 3. Adamek cruised to a 10-round unanimous decision over Dominick Guinn, while Glazkov scored a second round TKO over Byron Polley.
Although a venue has not been selected, Main Events CEO Kathy Duva expects Adamek’s strong Polish audience to have a huge impact at the gate and in television ratings.
We are quite pleased to present this classic match-up between a tough, highly respected veteran and two-division former world champion in Adamek, and an exciting, young up-and-coming former Olympic medalist in Glazkov on our next NBC afternoon broadcast.Being back on network TV for the third time in just 11 months makes this event that much more special. When Adamek appeared on NBC, last December, he brought the biggest television audience of 2012. We won’t be surprised if Adamek-Glazkov garners the biggest audience on broadcast or cable television for 2013, as well.
The fight materialized quickly after Adamek and his first option, undefeated American heavyweight Bryant Jennings, could not come to terms on a purse split.
Very good matchup. If this were a few years ago, say circa around the time Adamek defeated Chris Arreola, I would have no problems picking him to win this fight. Glazkov is strong, but he’s ponderous on his feet and would have fits trying to track down a younger Adamek. That still may very well be the case in November.
As for Bryant Jennings, he missed a big opportunity with this one. Regardless of if you place more blame with Duva or Jennings’ manager James Prince, the end result is that a heavyweight who was making noise last year (with five wins) has nothing on the horizon.
