Tonight (June 6), the world-famous Apollo Theater will showcase black punk rocker and Brooklyn native Tamar-Kali in special event celebrating the finale of the Harlem venue’s “Music Cafe” series.
The “Apollo Music Cafe” is billed as a platform for avant-garde artists to display their innovative sounds in a lounge setting.
First capturing mainstream attention for her spotlight in the critically acclaimed documentary AfroPunk, Tamar Kali released her debut album Black Bottom last year. She’s kept her sound diverse by working with Hip-Hop artists like Jean Grae (“Pearl Remix”) and contributing three selections to the soundtrack for the movie Pariah, a Sundance Festival selection.
Tickets for tonight’s show can be purchased at the Apollo Theater Box Office and Ticketmaster for $20. Doors open at 9 PM with the show’s start time at 10 PM. Also appearing will be the band 5IVE Piece. For more information visit www.apollotheater.org and Tamar-Kali’s official website.
