Freddie Roach Confident Pacquiao and Khan Beat Mayweather

"It's convenient for him because the only way he can be on the stage right now is to talk about a Manny Pacquiao fight, because of that nobody really cares about him and everybody has kind of forgot about him by now." - Freddie Roach

Overseas, writers started a small frenzy by posting an alleged quote from Roach stating he would be willing to see his stablemates Amir Khan and Manny Pacquiao fight each other. Roach clarified himself yesterday in a quote supplied to the UK’s Mirror. He also took the opportunity to take a swipe at Mayweather, who’s been vocal this week in criticizing Pacquiao’s opposition.

I had said that I wanted Amir to clean out the light-welterweight division and then step up to face the best in the welterweight division, fighters like Manny Pacquiao. It was said in a tongue-in-cheek way, and that should have been obvious. I would never want them to fight each other. And I can never, ever see that fight happening. Amir looks up to Manny and respects him so much I could never see them fighting. But as I say, I have two boxers who I train who could beat Floyd Mayweather. One of them is Manny Pacquiao. The other is Amir Khan.

Roach followed up his international commentary earlier today with another jab at Mayweather on boxingscene.com.

It’s convenient for him because the only way he can be on the stage right now is to talk about a Manny Pacquiao fight, because of that nobody really cares about him and everybody has kind of forgot about him by now. He hasn’t fought in over a year. He’s out of the ratings now. He’s not on the pound-for-pound list anymore. His career has gone in the toilet.
