Man Sues Mike Tyson for $115 Million Over ‘Iron’ Nickname

The absurdity of Landrum waiting 25 years to be bring this lawsuit is amazing. I'm interested in finding out if this Landrum is the same one listed on Box Rec as having been knocked out in his only two fights. There's never been a Mike Landrum that I'm aware of that earned a Top 20 ranking in any weight classes in the 1980s.

An obscure boxer from the 80’s is claiming Mike Tyson ruined his career by stealing his “Iron Mike” moniker.

Mike Landrum filed a $115 million dollar lawsuit in Los Angeles federal court, accusing Tyson infringing on his “Iron Mike” trademark.

Landrum says he turned turned pro in 1983, and even used the nickname before that. Mike Tyson’s legendary career began in 1985.

Landrum told TMZ that Tyson’s fame and usage of the moniker “hindered him from getting any major title fights or sponsorships because of the name confusion.”

The 49 year old claimant also said that his professional records was 6-4. However, a search of the premier boxing record database Box Rec only showed one person named Mike Landrum, and that individual’s record was 0-2. The junior middleweight fighter lost both fights, in 1982 and 1985 respectively, by knockout.

Mike Tyson’s lawyers are confident that case will be dismissed. At press time, Landrum will be representing himself in the case.

I hope this gives every boxing fan a good laugh for the day.

A few posters over at Eastside Boxing did a little more digging and turned up an “Iron Mike” who fought in the 60’s and 70’s. I wonder if he’d have a case, too.

And let’s not forget Mike Zambidis, a Muay Thai kickboxer based out of the UK who goes by “Iron Mike.”

I hope Mike Landrum has enjoys his 15 minutes of “fame.” Expect this lawsuit to get thrown out at the first hearing.

I have to give him some respect though; Landrum’s given me an excuse to throw up a Tyson highlight.
