A focused, patient Zab Judah was on display earlier tonight (July 16) in Newark, New Jersey, where he scored an impressive TKO over Jose Armando Santa Cruz on ESPN2 Friday Night Fights.
Judah concentrated early on controlling the lunging Santa Cruz behind consistent right jabs. Zab also zeroed his left hand shots to Santa Cruz’s body, keeping the normally aggressive Mexican hesitant to pounce. When Santa Cruz did get inside, Judah made sure to clinch and prevent him for working in-close.
In the 3rd round Cruz’s tendency to lean foward with his shots gave Judah the opening to land a slicing left uppercut. The jarring punch sharply snapped Santa Cruz’s head before he slowly collapsed on his face.
He beat the count, but Judah sensed a weakend prey and quickly finished Santa Cruz with a barrage of hooks against the ropes.
Regarding his future, Judah told ESPN2 that his hit list of opponents are Devon Alexander, Amir Khan, and Timothy Bradley.
The win improves Zab Judah’s record to 39-6, 27 KOs, while Jose Armando Santa Cruz falls to 28-5, 17 KOs.
