Marsha Ambrosius displays her prodigious talent with a cover a reggae legend Dennis Brown’s “Have You Ever.” The track is from the tribute compilation We Remember Dennis Brown, which has the late singer’s classics covered by today’s renowned R&B and reggae stars. The project is slated on a late spring release on VP Records.

A Sade remake with classic Jeru the Damaja underneath? You had me at hello, Ms. Ambrosius. Off her forthcoming sophomore album Friends & Lovers, Ambrosius flawlessly combines Sade’s sultry ballad with Jeru’s gritty DJ Premier production. The visuals, which tell the story of an intense love threatened by infidelity, displays how passion trumps logic.

There’s only one big problem with the clip… you should have left those Timbs on, Marsha.

LupeFiasco

Drake’s “Pound Cake” has Lupe Fiasco feeling some type of way… in the lyrical sense. Following The Lox last night and a few other notable artists, Fiasco uses Drake’s smooth instrumental as inspiration on the love front and to salute his fellow Chicago emcees.

It’s rare that a remake of a remake retains quality, but Phil Ade accomplishes that here with the help of producer Ashton Gold, who samples Xscape’s underrated remake of The Jones Girls’ “Who Can I Run To.” This track will be included on Ade’s R.O.S.E., due out July 30.

JPeriod_Common

Who better to retouch a classic then its originator? Common revisits his signature ode to Hip-Hop with J. Period supplying scratches that give nods to past emcees like MC Shan and Da Bush Babees. And Common pays tribute to Tribe’s Low End Theory with the chorus. This track will be featured on J. Period’s upcoming Rage Is Back mixtape (February 12).

Bravo, Ms. Keys. To celebrate her birthday, Alicia Keys went back to the early 90s when house music reigned to get lyrical and production inspiration from Crystal Waters and Cajmere. As someone who grew up in New Jersey where house music had a heavy influence, this was a real treat.

“I’ve been so overwhelmed by all of your birthday love that I HAD to do something extra special for you! Love to you!!! Big shout to Crystal Waters for your inspiration!… New Music!! B.N.M Part 2!!!!” – Alicia
