Nicki Minaj’s Pink Friday wasn’t a home run from a critical standpoint. But Young Money’s First Lady created a smash, crossover debut by making her work, for better or worse, completely in tune with the Europop/dance stylings of today. Case in point “Super Bass.” Songs like this are the reason she’s touring with Britney Spears and why this video has generated over 400,000 hits in less than 24 hours. For what it’s worth, some of those hair dye jobs (particularly the green one) gives flashbacks of her good friend Lil Kim in “Crush On You.” Minaj’s song with Rihanna “,Fly,” may be the next single, so expect this album to have legs for the rest of the year.
