After two very public failed attempts, Manny Pacquiao advisor Michael Koncz has confirmed his fighter and Floyd Mayweather are back at the negotiation table for a third round.
Both camps have blamed the other for the collapse of a second round of negotiations that took place over the summer for a proposed November 13 date. Pacquiao instead faced Antonio Margarito, who he defeated by unanimous decision. Before that, talks failed in early 2010 due to Pacquiao’s refusal to submit to Olympic-style drug testing.
Koncz advised the current discussions are just preliminary. Pacquiao is focused on a May 7 fight with Shane Mosley, who Mayweather beat by unanimous decision last spring.
“There’s been discussions…So far, it’s looking positive,” Koncz told ABS-CBN News. “It looked positive last time, too. We’re always hoping to entertain a fight with Mayweather.”
Mayweather stated in a recent interview that the superfight is still being held up by Pacquiao’s alleged refusal to adhere to testing through fight night. Pacquiao denied this claim in a Beats, Boxing & Mayhem interview last November.
At press time, representatives for Floyd Mayweather could not be reached for comment.
