Beyonce shocked the music world earlier this morning with the release of not only her new self-titled album, but the announcement of videos accompanying all 17 tracks. Stating in a press release that she was “bored” with the traditional way of releasing music, Jay Z’s better half said this move was inspired by the desire to speak “directly” with her fans.
Right.
Of course, the main reason for this is that fans are demanding more for their hard-earned dollars. With Lady Gaga having “disappointing” sales with her latest project, artists on major labels are going to have to go the extra mile to match the promotional creativity we’ve already been seen in the underground for years. We’ll see if Beyonce’s move leads the charge on the mainstream scene.
