“Are you drunk right now?”
In preparation for his big sophomore album (Take Care) in October, Drake has released a non-single offering entitled “Marvin’s Room.” Although carrying the same name as the 1991 play, the content is completely different from that work, which deals with the effects of AIDS on a family. Drake’s focus is preying on women not completely secure with their relationships (“fuck that nigga that you love so bad…”). There’s only one line that hints at any type of conscious (“I got some women/that are living off me/Pay for their flights and hotels/ I’m ashamed”). The audacity and disrespect of Drizzy’s lyrics are understood early when he discloses that he’s had “too many drinks,” revealing this track to be an exercise in drunk calling to the varied women still kept in his phone.
The song like won’t retain much replay value since 40’s production here is very similar to his past work with Drake. However, it’s a decent warm-up and his female audience should eat this up even with the abundance of the word “bitch” being thrown in their direction (which also likely kept this from being considered a single). Drake’s Take Care has a tentative release date of October 28.
Shout out to my homegirl Ms. Drama for nabbing this exclusive.
