BMF Ep. 301 Review: Big Meech vs. ATL, The Miami Boys AND The Red Dogs?!

The perils of 90s Atlanta is the new stage for BMF season 3 and Meech’s (Lil Meech) goal of expanding the Black Mafia empire.

The BMF leadership is now split between two fronts. Terry (Da’Vinchi) remains in Detroit to deal with an assassination attempt on him and Markisha’s (La La Anthony). In addition, he struggles with gaining the respect of the street soldiers previously under Meech.

Meanwhile, Meech quickly realizes that diplomacy won’t work with outside-averse groups like Remy Ramson’s Techwood Projects crew and the murderous Miami Killers. After having a drug drop shot up and a crew member killed, Meech must decide if he has enough loyal soldiers to survive a war against multiple foes on foreign soil.

The most important standout this episode was the real history used to recreate early 90s Atlanta. The show touched on the fear in low-income communities about the 1996 Olympics gentrifying or removing their neighborhoods. The infamous Red Dogs police unit, eventually shut down in the late 2010s for countless lawsuits and police brutality complaints, are shown terrorizing low-income areas with impunity. And even the Atlanta Child Murders, a string of homicides from 1979-1981, is referenced from its influence on current characters.
