Showtime Sports president Stephen Espinoza is in Atlanta this week for the city’s first men’s championship matchup in over 20 years as Gervonta Davis defends his lightweight title against Yuriorkis Gamboa.

With a 2019 that many consider a “quiet” year for Showtime on the boxing front, I spoke with Espinoza on how the company bounces back in 2020, his confidence in Atlanta’s future boxing potential and the importance of better communication with rival networks. Additionally, we discuss whether the tactic of overpaying fighters has made them “lazy” and if the old-timers were truly more durable due to more consistent fights.

And for the first time, Espinoza reveals a few surprising choices for his Top 5 emcees of all time (and why certain legends couldn’t make the cut). The entire uncut interview is below.
