Janelle Monae and new affiliate Jidenna are making a hard push for the radio with their latest, “Yoga.” Known for her eclectic sounds, Monae has been gradually trying to make her music more accessible, most notably the balance heard on 2013’s The Electric Lady. But this might be going too far. This sounds like a dozen other “trap r&b” tracks you might hear on the radio, thus robbing you of Janelle’s uniqueness. Hopefully she’s just testing the water and this isn’t indicative of what we can expect going forward.
