CARSON, CA — Coming into the ring at the highest weight of his career proved no issue for former light-heavyweight champion Chad Dawson, who needed less than a full round to dispose of George Blades.
Dawson, who put on 20 pounds in 24 hours to enter the ring at 202 pounds, scored a quick knockdown off a straight left to the midsection. Dawson then ended matters with a right hand followed by a cuffing left for the second and final knockdown.
In his post-fight interview, Dawson vowed to step up his competition and get in better shape.
Tonight’s win was Dawson’s first bout since losing the lineal light-heavyweight title via a first round KO to Adonis Steveson in June 2103. Blades receives his second consecutive loss after suffering a fifth round TKO to Jean Pascal last September.
