Dereck “Del Boy” Chisora (18-4, 12 KOs) had little trouble disposing of Edmund Gerber (23-2, 14 KOs) earlier this evening at the Copper Box Arena, utilizing a relentless body attack in route to a fifth round TKO.

Gerber couldn’t match Chisora’s strength and found himself out-muscled during the inside fighting and on the receiving end of thudding hooks downstairs. Chisora dominated the first three rounds with Gerber only having very brief success in the fourth, courtesy of several solid right hands. However, Chisora promptly went back to breaking down his foe in the fifth — Gerber was forced to the ropes where Chisora looped heavy right hands and left hooks. Although the Gerber was not in dire straits, the referee opted to call off the bout at the 2:50 mark.

The win gives Chisora the European heavyweight title. This is Chisora’s second consecutive win, coming off his controversial stoppage over Malik Scott. At press time, Chisora promoter Frank Warren hopes to ink a December rematch with Tyson Fury.

Good to see Chisora not messing around and handling business like a pro. The stoppage was fairly quick from my vantage point, but the writing was clearly on the wall even after that short Gerber rally in the fourth. The Fury rematch seems wishful thinking for December — Haye has first dibs, probably in early to mid November, so Chisora would have to wait until early 2014. No matter what, he should keep active and get in another fight before year’s end. He has momentum building and should keep his confidence high.

  1. Did you see Chisora crying his eyes out walking to the ring??? Its been a very shocking and sad time for British fight fans over here with the recent death of Dean Powell… A great match maker, trainer and mentor to everyone, from world champs to fighters just turning pro or journeyman with 99 fights and 1 win, he genuinely had time for everyone…

He lost his life out of nowhere in a tragic way, I dont think there is one person in the game that has a bad word to say about him, which is rare in boxing, pundits where daum near crying on air, fighters crying walking to the ring, it really hit everyone hard, I was in shock when I found out, its crazy…

Richard Schaefer said some nice words about him on a boxing show prior to the Mayweather fight as did another American matchmaker (I forgot his name now though)

But yeah Chisora looked in the shape of his life, seems really switched on at last, I think he is 3stone lighter than some previous fights…
