The UK’s Gavin Rees has agreed to terms with Golden Boy to face Adrien Broner for the WBC lightweight title in Atlantic City on February 16.

With a record of 37-1-1 (18 KOs), the 32-year-old Rees is coming off a TKO rematch win over Derry Matthews in July to retain the European lightweight title.

Rees has been waiting for another high-profile fight since losing the WBA lightweight title to Andriy Kotelnik in March 2008. Since then, Rees has posted a record of 9-0-1 with 4 stoppages.

With a 64 inch reach, Rees does his best work pressuring opponents with a high output of power shots. His body punching is an important aspect of how he wears down opponents. Considering that Broner put on an inside fighting clinic against Antonio DeMarco last month, it’s hard to imagine Rees being able to score an upset and not become cannon fodder after a few rounds. Rees is not a particularly hard or accurate puncher either, so Broner will score  heavily with short counter uppercuts and hooks inside.

With Ricky Burns unavailable, Rees is definitely a solid opponent. However, Adrien Broner is on another level and will prove that in devastating fashion by the middle rounds.

Check out the below footage of Rees’s recent fights and see if you agree.
