“He’s [Pacquiao] the best fighter in the world. They need to do what Manny says; we don’t need to do what Mayweather says.”
Here’s the latest example of why it’s difficult to discern the truth about Manny Pacquiao’s stance on whether he’ll agree to Floyd Mayweather’s request for random drug testing. Pacquiao’s official website released this video of his strength and conditioning coach Alex Ariza adamantly denying that Pacquiao would agree to the testing. You’ll recall a few weeks ago that Pacquiao advisor Michael Koncz said the closet concession they’d previously given was 14 days before fight night (said with Pacquiao seated beside him). The same week Koncz made his statements, Pacquiao by himself told ESPN that blood testing would no longer be a problem in the negotiations, which echoes what Manny told me himself before facing Antonio Margarito last November.
Confused? All you need to remember is Ariza’s comment that has been highlighted at the top of this article. The central reason this fight has not happened is the egos on both sides of the table.

If a mans willing to cheat, he’s willing to lie… Don’t care what Pacquiao, Arum, Roach, Ariza or any of these clowns say until PAC takes “random” blood and urine testing. I’m sorry there were too many excuses prior to them coming up with the alibi of not playing into Mayweathers demands.. First it weakened PAC, then he was scared of needles, then he brings up the story on how he was weak for the first Morales fight, cut off dates for the testing ex. ex… The more I listen to this shit, the more I believe Manny is ducking the fight and hiding something.
Roach has already trained a fighter who was caught using PEDs, while roach was training him- (James “Lights Out” Toney).. There’s the main reason I can’t believe a word out of Roach’s mouth because he’s already had a fighter get caught.
Arum is a old crooked dude (who’s stealing Pacquiaos money as we speak), he’s not going to say anything negative about Pacquiao when Pacquiao is making all of his money. So I can’t believe a damn word out of Arums mouth either.
Pacquiao needs to find a way to leave Bob Arum, Whether it be a 1 times deal with “Golden Boy” or promote himself for a Mayweather fight, then retire. Unless that happens (plus Pacquiao agreeing to blood testing) I don’t think this fight will ever happen.
If Manny Pacquiao was promoted by any other promoter in the world, I almost guarantee a Floyd/Pac fight would have happened already. There’s no doubt in my mind if Manny Pacquiao would have agreed to “random” blood testing and signed his name on the dotted line we’d have already seen the fight.
Mayweather signed the contract in the first negotiations (the only negotiations that actually consisted of both parties) and Mayweather signed the contract and Manny Pacquiao didn’t.
The stipulations for Manny was gloves size, ring size, 10 million dollars per pound over 147 and 50/50 split in PPV buys.
Mayweathers stipulation was “Random” blood and urine testing for Performance enhancing drugs.
Floyd signed the contract and Manny Didn’t.. Who’s really ducking and hiding things?
Nathan,
Have you seen the signed contract by Floyd? To me this is all hearsay. This all started when Floyd Sr. said after the Cotto fight that he didn’t want his son to fight Pac and that is what put a doubt in little Floyd’s head. At the end of the day Pac has never failed a drug test, never been connected to any PED scandal. Why didn’t Floyd show up in court for the defamation suit? Answer this question for me, why did Mayweather all of a sudden ask for random testing after 40 professional fights. He never onced asked anyone else to take it before Pac. My opinion is that he feels threaten b/c he has never seen a potential opponent as good as Pac and he envies him b/c of of all the postivive publicity Manny is getting. I don’t care what Ariza says, it already came out Pac’s mouth and Arum’s mouth that random testing is no longer an issue. I agree that Arum is a scumbag but they already said it is not an issue. And If they back track on that then yeah you have a point. At the end of the day, they both need this fight to further their legacy. I say more so Floyd than Manny.
Jordan, it is recording in the history books in the sport of boxing that Manny Pacquiao walked away from the fight with Floyd Mayweather Jr to fight Joshua Clottey because he didn’t want to agree to the cut off that Mayweather wanted for the random blood and urine tests.
