A Robert Guerrero shoulder injury has resulted in the cancellation of next Saturday’s (August 27) WBA title eliminator between Guerrero and Marcos Maidana.
Golden Boy CEO Richard Schaefer confirmed the injury, which was suffered during sparring yesterday (August 17). Although which shoulder or the type of injury has not been specified, the damage was enough to call off the bout.
Guerrero was poised to make his junior welterweight debut after scoring a unanimous decision win over Michael Katsidis in April. Maidana was coming of his own April win with a close decision over Erik Morales. The winner of the fight would have been a potential opponent to face Amir Khan in December.
The undercard, which scheduled to feature undefeated American heavyweight prospect Seth Mitchell against Mike Mollo, has also been canceled.
