With Jorge Barrios pulling out today (August 2) due to visa issues, Erik Morales will up his opponent quality on September 17 when he faces Argentinian slugger Lucas Matthysse.
Matthysse has lost disputed decisions in his last two fights against Zab Judah and Devon Alexander. Matthysse knocked both fighters down, and fought them near or in their hometowns. Morales is coming off a close April loss to Marcos Maidana in a battle that saw Morales storm back from an early deficit and closed right eye.
The fight will be for the vacant WBC junior welterweight title that was stripped from Timothy Bradley last week. The bout will be live at the MGM Grand on the undercard of Mayweather-Ortiz.
