LAS VEGAS, NV — In a hard-fought contest of attrition, Lamont Peterson’s (29-1-1, 15 KOs) right hands finally broke Victor Cayo (26-2, 18 KOs) for a KO victory with just 15 seconds remaining in the 12th round. Both men stood their ground and exchanged hooks for the majority of the bout. Peterson’s mixed his offense to the body and took most of the rounds with his harder, more debilitating punches. Peterson dazed Cayo with two successive overhand rights with 43 seconds remaining in the 12th. Cayo complaints of rabbit punches were ignored, and Peterson landed several left uppercuts and doubled the right hook to the body then head to score the fight-ending knockdown with 30 seconds left. The win was a title eliminator that makes Peterson that #1 contender for Amir Khan’s newly won IBF junior welterweight title.
