For the past year, J. Cole has been working hard to secure a release date for his debut album Cole World. The false starts have been attributed to what his label feels is the lack of a big single. The latest try is this ladies track “Work Out.” You’ll notice right off the bat that the song samples Kanye’s “Workout Plan.” This isn’t a bad song, but it does come off bland. The chorus sounds like 50 Cent circa ’05. It’s the type of track you’d expect as a mixtape filler over a song to push a rapper’s debut over the hump. It also doesn’t help that Cole ends the song by crooning old Paula Abdul lyrics.
