“I may be young but I’m ready/ to give you all my love…”
When your husband is one of the greatest emcees ever, it’s a given some of his music tastes will rub off on you. Jay-Z has always lauded Andre 3000 as one of favorites. Considering Andre has made it a habit lately of working with R&B stars (Chris Brown, Ke$ha), it’s no surprise he’s linked with Beyonce for “Party.” Kanye and Consequence’s production is very reminiscient of early and mid 80’s R&B, the type of slow grooving, synth sounds that singers like Patrice Rushen made their names on. He throws in a nice nod to Hip-Hop’s output from that era with a short vocal sample of Slick Rick’s “Lodi Dodi.” Unfortunately, that mature vibe laid by Ye and Cons is hurt slightly by lyrics that have Beyonce speaking from the perspective of a young woman deciding to sleep with a suitor for the first time (possibly losing her virginity). Beyonce is a young woman, but she’s not that young. Andre rarely drops bad verses, and he’s serviceable here albiet unspectacular. Bey’s new album 4 drops June 28.
