Apathy Joins the Breakfast Club, Violates the Fake On “East Coast Rapist”

Any Hip-Hop song that kicks off with a Breakfast Club sample gets extra points. Apathy's back with this rumored bonus track from his upcoming new album Honkey Kong.

“You say you’re on your grind like that’s something special…that’s what you’re supposed to be doing motherfucker. We rap!”

Any Hip-Hop song that kicks off with a Breakfast Club sample gets extra points. Apathy’s back with this rumored bonus track from his upcoming new album Honkey Kong.

Apathy handles his own production here, utilizing some nice guitar riffs. They have an 80s feel that does not come off corny like most of the stadium sound trend that’s prevalent now. Tone Spliff assists in crafting the strong, grassroots authenticity with cuts that incorporate vocal samples from The Notorious B.IG., Ol Dirty Bastard and Group Home. Lyrically, Apathy’s focus is displaying the differences between himself and other emcees. He tells his story and the disgust he has for those that appropriate the struggles of others (“They grab they pen and their pencil/And start tracing my stencil…”).

When factoring in Apathy’s opening quote and The Breakfast Club sample, the message to his fellow emcees is be yourself and quit the self-indulgent bullshit. Be on the lookout late spring/early summer to see if Honkey Kong lives up to his own words.
