Last year, I had the opportunity to check out Dom Kennedy when he made a rare Atlanta stop. I was happy to note that they big crowd showed I wasn’t the only one championing this everyman West Coast emcee. You can’t call Dom a “freshman,” as he’s been doing his thing for years. But last year’s From the Westside With Love gave him some well-deserved national attention. For a follow-up, he’s going with this surprisingly low-key release called The Original Dom Kennedy.
I say low-key release because he went with a “black album” format instead of the usual promotion (trailers, song leaks) that most artists these days do. Nonetheless, the tape is quality and word of mouth (ie internet) will get the word out. If your unfamiliar with Dom, this is as good a time as any to jump in. One of the cool things you’ll notice after downloading is that each song has its own original cover art.
